The 29th Annual West Coast National Swift Fly-in is scheduled for Sept. 19 – 21 at Westover airport in Jackson, CA.
In 1985, I had the pleasure to organize the first West Coast National Swift Fly-in with the help of 2 great friends: Bill Weaver and Dennis Arbeau. Amador County (Sutter Creek and Jackson) were not known as a destination, but today I am happy to say it is very much a tourist destination. (I invite you to check out Amador County, Sutter Creek and Jackson on the internet.)
This year’s fly-in, well be mostly like it has been in the past. We will have a BBQ on Friday night; Aircraft Judging on Saturday Afternoon; and a great Dinner at Thomis on Saturday Night. We have a block of rooms blocked out at the “Best Western Amador Inn”, 209-223-0211, and of course there will “the group” hanging out at the airport “meeting friends, telling stories and what has happened in the last year.”
I have noticed that we don’t fly as much as we used to; maybe it is because we are nearly 30 years older and maybe we have slowed down. I know that I have. I have been working with the Amador Council of Tourism to suggest several things that might interest you while you are here.
I plan to send out more on the “Fly In” updates between now and September. If you have any suggestions, ideas or questions, please send them to me. (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Keep the blue sky up and your wings level.
Get your reservations, Best Western Amador Inn, 209-223-0211, say you are with the Swift group. You can always cancel if something unavoidable comes up, but this guarantees you the $69 Swift rate.
