WEST COAST SWIFT WING

May 2014

EDITOR: CAROL & GERRY HAMPTON AV8RGNH@SBCGLOBAL.NET 530-676-7755

We are fast approaching the fly-in and Air Show season. Hopefully we all have our Swifts and ourselves up to par to enjoy the good flying weather coming up. Major fly-ins on the schedule include Swift National at Dayton, OH; RRSW at Fredericksburg, TX; and West Coast Swift National at Westover Field, Jackson, CA

 Westover 2014 Sept 19-21

Dave Richards and Brad Stahl are well into planning for a “traditional” West Coast Swift National. The fly-in headquarters is still the Best Western Amador Inn and the rate is still $69. Please call and get your reservation—209-223-0211. Don Thomson will be leading a fly out to the Bay Area. We are planning on wine tasting—leaving earlier than we have in the past so we can hit a couple more wineries. We will have a formation school if there is a demand. All in all, a normal “fun” event.

 Swift National 2014 June 4-8

The countdown to Swift National at Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport (MGY) continues as we are now at 58 days and counting. Now is the time to get registered since it is only 27 days to the cutoff date for getting the reduced registration fee of $40 per head ….PLUS…with that you will receive a free desktop model of the Wright “B” Flyer signed by the last remaining member of the original Wright family. Early registration will help the committee’s with planning and contribute to a more enjoyable Swift National. If for some reason you can-not register early we and your friends would love to see you at National at any time…so come on out and join the fun.

Steps to take to get registered:

1. Send in the registration form (included in this newsletter) to Bud and Sylvia Brown at 718 Hartwell Street, Royston, GA 30662 or email asabrown@aol.com . If you register by email then you must send the check to Bud or Sylvia or to Pam at HQ. Please make the check out to Swift Museum Foundation, Inc. You may also use a credit card if you call Pam at Hq. Our Cutoff date for early registration is May 4 AND to make your guaranteed reservation at the Hilton Garden Inn.

2. Please indicate on your registration if you will be renting a car.

3. Please remember to indicate your shirt size and the Names of attendees

4. Contact the Hilton Garden Inn, 12000 Innovation Way, Miamisburg, Ohio at 937-247-5850 …and be sure to tell them you are with the Swift Group to get our special rate. If you are driving or have rented a car at Cincinnati or Dayton International you would get off of I-75 at Exit 41. This hotel is only 1 mile from MGY airport. You may also contact an alternate ….the Hampton Inn…at 937-743-2121. This hotel is 3 miles from MGY and you would get off I-75 at Exit 38. We are advised that they can accommodate pets if you are traveling with one for $25 per stay. We will provide Van service from both hotels to MGY.

 Northwest Swift Fly-in

From Kent Koester: The Cottage Grove airport will be shut down this summer for a new runway; not that it really needs a new multi-million dollar runway, but guess that will be the excuse to keep the airport in service for the rest of my flying career (as long as I don’t have to pay my share of the user fees for it). Latest” rumor” is start June 1 and hope to finish runway by end of July???

The best plan for a NW get together would be to populate the line at the Arlington EAA regional fly-in Jul 10-12.

Red River Swift Wing Gathering Sept 11-14

The RRSW is going back to Fredericksburg for its fall fly-in. More info to follow.

If you want it mailed, US Post office, the dues remain at $15.00 – we still have to offset the expense of printing, mailing labels, stamps, etc. For our Canadian friends, we must continue to ask for $20.00   because of the higher postage fees.

****IF your annual dues are up for renewal, please send your check to Gerry Hampton, 3195 Bonanza Dr, Cameron Park, Ca 95682. Make the check out to Gerry or Carol Hampton, WCSW. If you have already renewed, please disregard this notice.
