WEST COAST SWIFT WING

JUNE 2018

SWIFT NATIONAL 2018

The showing of Swifter’s from the west coast was slim this year. I flew commercially from Seattle for the event and Roger Weber and his wife flew their Swift from Independence, OR.

About 27 Swifts were in attendance. Many more people as some came on the airlines and others by vehicle.

The weather was excellent, albeit hot. Much flying occurred with arrivals, departures and individual and formation flights beating up the field. I spent much of my time helping Sandy Mercandetti by acting as instructor pilot for the formation candidates.

On Saturday, Mark Baker of AOPA fame, was present to tour the facility, meet Swifter’s and offer some highlights of activities at AOPA. One of his colleagues was present to take some photographs. They made favorable comments about our new facilities, parts department and support of the Swift by the Association. They were treated to some Swift flying.

A good time was had…Looking forward to Westover!

NW Swift Fly-in Cottage Grove, OR 14-15 July 2018

From Kent Koester:

NW Swift Fly-In at Cottage Grove, OR Last Update

Good flying weather is upon us in the Pacific northwest and our local aviation museum starts the season with the Cottage Grove Wings and Wheels Fly-In June 23 followed by our Swift Fly-In July 14-15. The turn-out looks good with a large fraction of Swifters arriving on the 12th.

Our room block at the Village Green has timed out, but there are still some rooms available on a “first come” basis. They have a wedding scheduled for Saturday and expect to be sold out for our weekend. For reservations, call 1-800-343-7666 and ask for the Swift Fly-In event, but better hurry.

The reservation list includes the “regulars”, some we haven’t seen in a while, and first timers for this fly-in. We look forward to seeing all of you here in Cottage Grove, Oregon.

Remember: cool mornings, warm afternoons, morning stratus possible depending on the marine cycle. Cottage Grove airport is 61S, 122.8, R33 is right hand pattern. Fly safe.

Westover 2018 27-30 September

From Don Bartholomew and Brad Stahl:

The date for Westover 2018 is September 27 (Thursday) through 30 (Sunday). The fly-in hotel is the Best Western Amador Inn (209-223-0211) which should have remodeling completed by fly-in time. There are 20 rooms reserved at $85.99 a night, 14 days prior to the event extra rooms are dropped off the reserved list.

When making the reservation tell them you are with the Swift Fly-in Group. Hospitality Suite is being reserved and a Shuttle is being reserved. Denny’s will give you 15% off meals.

Legend of Flight Pancake Breakfast

The Legends of Flight Museum puts on a pancake breakfast the fourth Saturday of the month, April thru October. See flyer.

This is a nice get together with a wide variety of aircraft to peruse. I would encourage you to attend.
